Bollywood’s Dirty Secret: ‘Aashiqui’ Soundtrack Stolen from Pakistani Music, Claims Lalit Pandit.

Bollywood's Dirty Secret

Hey music lovers! I, have come across the sensational news in the music right now. In a bombshell interview with Bollywood Hungama, renowned music producer Lalit Pandit, one-half of the iconic Jatin-Lalit duo, has made explosive claims that challenge the originality of the beloved soundtrack of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1990 film Aashiqui. Pandit asserts that the soundtrack, which catapulted Nadeem-Shravan to fame, consists largely of plagiarized Pakistani songs.

Pandit did not hold back in his criticism. “Nadeem-Shravan’s music was never truly original. Most of the songs that made them famous were lifted straight from Pakistani cassettes,” he declared. “Nadeem often traveled to Dubai to buy these cassettes and then brought them back to India for reproduction. This dirty secret is well-known within the industry!”

He revealed that the iconic tracks from Aashiqui were merely repurposed Pakistani hits. “The so-called ‘original’ songs of Aashiqui are Pakistani tracks, with minimal changes. This is a whole case of musical theft!”

Pandit highlighted the importance of originality in music composition. “A true composer’s music reflects their unique style. If you listen to Jatin-Lalit, you immediately recognize our signature. Everything we created was authentically ours,” he said.

While admitting that even Jatin-Lalit drew inspiration from other music industries, Pandit stressed their fundamentally different approach. “Inspiration is necessary; we all have influences. But Jatin was a purist. He might draw ideas from other tracks but never outright stole a song. I would sometimes incorporate bits from English songs, blending them so seamlessly that only I knew the source. But Jatin’s compositions were purely his own.”

These revelations cast a shadow over the celebrated Aashiqui soundtrack, which played a pivotal role in the overnight success of actors Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal. Even after three decades, songs like “Bas Ek Sanam Chaahiye,” “Nazar Ke Saamne,” “Main Duniya Bhula Doonga,” and “Dheere Dheere” continue to enchant listeners.

With these explosive allegations now out in the open, the legacy of Aashiqui’s music is under serious threat. Is this the end of the adoration for one of Bollywood’s most cherished soundtracks, or will it weather this storm of controversy? The music
