Grammy Win: Ganesh Rajagopalan’s Unforgettable Moment

Grammy winner violinist Rajagopalan

In the world of music, Shakti has just made history. After 45 years without a studio album, they’ve won a Grammy for “This Moment.” The band’s stars are guitarist John McLaughlin, tabla genius Zakir Hussain, singer Shankar Mahadevan, drummer Selvaganesh Vinayakram, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan. They received this top honor in the U.S., showing how much they’ve given to music.

Ganesh joined Shakti in 2019 and was key to their Grammy-winning album, made even as COVID-19 kept them apart. They worked online to mix their music into this award-winning album. Ganesh feels lucky to play with such great artists and helps keep Shakti fresh after 50 years. He’s also worked with famous names like A R Rahman and runs a music school in Portland.

This Grammy isn’t just a prize. It’s a big ‘thank you’ to Shakti for mixing different sounds and styles in their music. It also shines a light on Ganesh’s journey in music. This win will inspire other musicians to mix styles and make new kinds of music.

As a DJ, I’m excited to share this news and celebrate Ganesh Rajagopalan’s unforgettable Grammy win. This is a proud moment for music and for India.
